How do you handle colleagues/coworkers who have extremely prejudiced viewpoints?

I work in a large multinational company and we have a very diverse workforce and people do get along well with each other -professionally and personally. But I can't stand the racist mindset of most of my White colleagues -we're based in the South of course;

What bothers me most is that they're selectively biased. While they spare the worst stereotypes for Black workers constantly inventing some flaw in their backgrounds (';Kevin was in prison, so typical'; - ';She has a loud voice'; - ';This one's your Uncle Tom'; - ';Hey look, he's ordered fried chicken';)

However, these same colleagues would shower praise on East Asian workers calling them industrious, cooperating, professional. But again, there are a few industrious Indians who they would like to judge as Middle-Eastern terrorists whereas india's in South Asia not Middle East.

We also have a few Indian ';pow wow'; colleagues. They stay separate from everyone.

I truly wish to bring this fragmented workplace together any ideas? How do you handle colleagues/coworkers who have extremely prejudiced viewpoints?
Bobby D how did you get to become a top contributor with stating tell the supervisor or mind your own business? How lame is that one. Like the other lady started suggest meetings it is an excellent idea. They already have things like that in colleges for the faculties. So it should be encouraged in the workplace. I believe everyone deserves total self respect in the workplace. People have to learn if they want to appear to be a racist to spew that filth in their own home not where others congregate. So yes have the meetings and it should not be tolerated at all in the workplace. How do you handle colleagues/coworkers who have extremely prejudiced viewpoints?
If it bothers you that much, maybe you should seek advice from a supervisor.

Otherwise, I'd mind my own business.
Mind your own business. We're in Iraq now because the Bush administration thinks they have these kinds of answers. Most do- gooders do more harm than good.
Unless you are managing a group of these people, the only influence or power that you have is what is given to you by the group. If you are known as an ';all right'; or ';stand up'; guy by your co workers, you do have the influence of one.

Often when insensitive remarks are made, pointed silence speaks volumes. The trick is to not make the person making the comment come off as a insensitive slug, but to show you don't hold the same views without looking like you are ';above'; the rest. It takes finesse and tact and sometimes works better one on one than in a group of prejudiced folks where they draw strength in their opinions from each other.

All any of us can do is to be ourselves, treat people we work with the same, without regard to race, religion, culture or sexual orientation. It does get noticed. Change doesn't happen overnight.
Personally, I think you are nothing but a race-baiter trying to create more animosity on YA. Your claim reeks of bull. You claim ';We're based in the south of course'; What are you trying to say the rest of the country is without prejudice?

You are the worst kind of bigot, one who is too pathetic and cowardly to stand up and simply state your position. Instead you hide behind idiotic rhetoric and hope that others who share your view will bite.
I believe you should suggest meetings on becoming more racially sensitive and hold them often. The only way things can improve is confront the people that are saying these things and then they can see how ignorant and hurtful what they are saying can be. Demoralizing people with racist remarks should not be tolerated. If after these meetings the people who are being offensive should be suspended.
i try to educate them in a non-confrontational way by showing that there is more than one viewpoint. and if that doesnt work, well all hope is lost and i try not to waste my time on people like that.

if an attitude would get in the way of work being done, i would report to the manager.
Have trust in yourself %26amp;in Almighty.Remember one point in mind that whatever we get today ,it is the fruit of our past deeds %26amp;whatever we are doing today we will get its results in near future. So be cautious %26amp;do good only to ensure future with tolerance to clear the past account. One day will come when your leg pullers will appreciate your attitude %26amp;actions.Have patience.Be good,do good.
Fire everyone and quit trying to save the world.

People will have prejudice no matter who you hire and fire... it's what makes this big blue ball go around. Trying to play Michael Jackson and singing ';We Are the World'; to the HR folks, you could be doing more harm than good.

People are allowed good natured humor in the work place, as long as no one gets hurt. But it sounds like you're the only one getting hurt. Ever consider working in Washington DC... Political correctness may be your best and worst asset.
